Fitness industry on the upswing: growth through trends and changes
The fitness industry is experiencing strong growth, as the latest data from Placer.ai shows. In the third quarter of 2024, visits to gyms increased by 6.6% compared to the previous quarter, while other sectors such as supermarkets only grew by 2%.
R.J. Hottovy from Placer.ai attributes the success to low-cost memberships, networked fitness training and the appeal to Generation Z. There is also a trend towards later training times, which is linked to flexible working models.
The industry is also growing in Switzerland: according to the 2024 key data study by swiss active, fitness centers increased by 5%, the number of members by 13% and turnover by 18%. Particularly noteworthy is the increase in members over the age of 50, who now make up 27% of total members.
