swiss active presents third comprehensive study on the Swiss fitness industry

Invitation to the industry conference on June 11, 2024

swiss active is pleased to present the third comprehensive study on the Swiss fitness industry, which shows that the sector is in a better position than ever before. Last year’s study showed a clear recovery in the sector in the first year after the pandemic. The current study examines whether this high level has been maintained or even increased and what trends are emerging for the future.

For the third time, swiss active has collected the latest key data on the Swiss fitness industry together with the German University for Prevention and Health Management (DHfPG). The study covers comparative values over four years and offers a representative quantitative analysis that creates market transparency and also enables comparisons with neighboring countries. Key figures are presented, comparisons drawn and developments highlighted. The study answers the following questions, among others:

  • How has the number of providers developed since the end of 2019? Which cantons have the most fitness centers per capita, and which have the fewest?
  • What about membership figures? How have the check-ins developed?
  • Will members have to pay more for their training or will the fees remain stable?
  • Has the fitness industry created new jobs again in 2023?
  • What does the future of the industry look like? How does it assess its economic situation?

“After some difficult years, the fitness industry is in a better position than ever before and has every reason to remain confident about the future,” says Marcus Schwedhelm, President of swiss active. “For more and more people, training is a fixed item on their agenda, also as part of active health prevention. The bottom line is that the whole of Switzerland benefits from this.”
